Job Software Budget Entry at MyBuilderCPA

Hello, Jon Markee here, founder and CEO of MyBuilderCPA. Today, I want to talk about the process of job software budget entry as part of our service engagement with you. Depending on the plan you choose, we will upload or enter your estimates into your job software, which in turn will populate budgets within the software.

Why We Enter Your Estimates

There are two main reasons for entering your estimates into the job software:

  1. Comparison Against Original Estimate: It is essential to compare your current budget against the original estimate to track progress and identify any variances.

  2. Aid in Transaction Entry: Having a pre-defined budget helps us tremendously with entering transactions. When we receive bills, receipts, or other records, a budget allows us to determine the correct cost code quickly and accurately.

How It Helps

For example, if we receive a receipt from Lowe's for screws, and your budget indicates an open line for framing, we can accurately book the transaction to framing. Without a budget, we might have to guess where to allocate the expense, possibly leading to inaccuracies such as booking it to hardware when that cost code wasn't intended for the job.

Our Role in Budget Entry

While we assist with budget entry, it is important to note that we are not professional estimators. We do not have the tools or expertise to calculate takeoffs or detailed estimates. However, we use our professional judgment to ensure your budgets are comprehensive. If we notice a significant omission, such as a missing foundation budget for a home with a basement, we will inquire to ensure nothing is overlooked.

We rely on you to provide us with the estimates or budgets once they are signed by the homeowner. From there, we will enter them into your job software, ensuring everyone has access to the most accurate budget information.

By integrating your estimates into your job software, we aim to provide you with a reliable budget that aids in faster and more accurate transaction entry. If you have any questions about how this process works or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to comment below or reach out to me directly.

Thanks for watching, and have a great day!
