1. Timeline and Acceleration Options

Our standard onboarding timeline is two months. However, we offer an add-on feature to accelerate this process for an additional cost. This option allows us to work overtime or redirect other scheduled time to meet your needs faster.

2. Initial Assessment

Before making any entries or changes to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) or job management software, we conduct a thorough assessment. This includes reviewing your balance sheet, profit and loss statements, accounts receivable, and accounts payable to understand your current financial situation.

3. Standardization

We strive to implement or transition you to the standard NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Chart of Accounts and Cost Codes whenever possible. This standardization makes your financials more readable, comparable to industry peers if you ever want to sell your business, and easier for our team to manage within our system.

4. Meeting Preferences

While meetings are optional, we need to know your preference. Some clients prefer to participate in onboarding calls to understand what we are doing, while others prefer to communicate via email. Regardless, at least one onboarding call is necessary to discuss basic bank feeds and regular bank statement retrieval.

5. Clean-Up Process

During the clean-up phase, we will review historical transactions. Most clients prefer us to focus on current transactions and ignore past accounting issues. However, we must address balance sheet items since it is a cumulative report. Starting a new QBO account is usually not advisable because historical data often contains valuable insights, and we are adept at cleaning up your existing records.

6. All Hands on Deck

During the onboarding process, our team is fully dedicated to completing the clean-up and setting up a profitable accounting system for you. As a result, routine deliverables might not be immediately available. It typically takes the full two months to provide reliable reports as outlined in our long-term engagement letter. For faster results, consider adding an in-person onboarding at your office or opting for the accelerated onboarding feature.

Expect more frequent communication with MyBuilderCPA during onboarding, including additional meetings and faster email response times. This heightened level of interaction will normalize to what is promised in your engagement letter after onboarding is complete.
